Debbie is a Senior Patent Attorney at Granta IP Services Ltd. She is a member of Council and Chair of the Education Committee. She is a Co-Editor of the Patents Training Manual and currently working on the development and delivery of the Advanced Patent Paralegal Course.

Sally is IPReg’s Head of Education Review, and has been in role since September 2024. She has worked on professional education and workforce issues for many years. This includes for professional and public bodies, and by contributing to the quality assurance activity of other regulators. She has a first degree and PhD in history, and published articles and book chapters on professional education.

Henrietta is a patent attorney at Elkington + Fife LLP, working in the Life Science sector and is a professional member of the IPReg Board. Henrietta has been involved in education and training for patent attorneys since 2008.  She was formerly an FD4 examiner and tutors for the FD4 exam and EQE Paper C.

As a member of the IPReg Board, Henrietta will be involved in the Education Review which seeks to ensure the qualification routes into the patent attorney and trade mark attorney professions remain up-to-date and responsive to changes in professional practice, employer and consumer needs.

Julia Gwilt is a partner at Appleyard Lees and specialises in software inventions.

She has had a passion for training for over 15 years.  As one of the patent attorney members who established the Patent Examination Board (PEB), she oversaw the UK professional examinations for over six years until her term ended in 2020.  She is now chair of the epi Profession Education Committee which oversees training and other aspects of the EQE for trainee European patent attorneys.  Together with other members of the PEC, she has been heavily involved in the proposal for a new digital EQE.

Nina is an experienced patent attorney with an academic background in physics & mathematics and extensive experience with software and robotics inventions.
Nina’s career has spanned a wide spectrum of the IP landscape: she trained in private practice in Munich, drove commercial IP strategy in-house at IBM and Porsche in Stuttgart, and has now moved into the public sector at the UK Atomic Energy Authority—a research organisation leading the delivery of sustainable fusion energy.

Beyond her day job, Nina is deeply committed to the future of the IP profession. She is part of the team working on Visser’s Annotated European Patent Convention. She actively contributes as an epi Tutor and committee member, focusing on education and IP awareness, advocating for a more inclusive environment via the Diversity & Inclusion Working Group, and championing professional development through the pilot epi Students Mentorship Programme: https://patentepi.org/en/epi-students/epi-students-mentorship-programme/.

Electing a representative who is both new to the UK and deeply experienced within the epi’s governance is an opportunity. Nina’s extensive internal experience ensures she can be immediately effective, understanding the epi’s mechanisms and key issues from day one and offering the UK membership a unique and powerful blend of deep institutional knowledge and a fresh perspective.

Should she be elected, Nina promises to represent the UK’s interests within epi and to promote epi within the UK IP community. She asks for your vote to bring both newcomer energy and epi expertise to the UK delegation.

Timothy Powell is a knowledgeable patent attorney with more than 30 years’ experience of innovation protection in high-technology engineering disciplines, contested proceedings before the European Patent Office and patent litigation in the UK.

He has had extensive exposure to corporate due diligence reporting and additionally founded the firm’s dedicated team for clients in the cleantech industry. He also has considerable international expertise, and regularly presents papers on aspects of intellectual property to universities and business audiences in the UK, US, China, Korea and elsewhere. Tim has also regularly contributed to the Inside Careers Guide to Chartered Patent Agents and has published numerous papers on intellectual property subjects.

A full or substitute member of the Council of the European Patents Institute for approximately fifteen years, Tim remains active on its professional conduct and finance committees. He has for the past 18 months chaired the epi Working Group on use of AI by patent attorneys.

Iain is an experienced patent attorney who runs Russell IP; a Surrey-based patent practice specialising in helping UK-based companies protect their high-tech (e.g. AI, computer technology, telecoms) and music-tech innovations. He is the Chair of CIPA’s new AI Committee and actively tests, uses, and builds his own, AI tools for patent work. He also offers training and support (primarily to in-house patent attorneys) around risks and rewards of adopting AI in IP work.

Parminder is a patent attorney and Partner at Appleyard Lees.  She primarily handles physics-based technologies and computer-implemented inventions (CIIs), and she is well-known for her specialism in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep tech. Her work in the AI space includes patenting AI and machine learning used for image analysis and object classification, human-computer interactions, text-to-speech systems, 5G networks, and synthetic dataset generation, as well as novel generative AI models, federated learning, and the use of AI to control processes or machines.

Henry has been working at Wilson Gunn in Manchester since he began training in May 2019.  In 2023 he qualified as a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney and was promoted to Senior Associate in May 2024.

Henry’s practice covers a wide range of technology in the physics and engineering disciplines primarily relating to patent drafting and prosecution, but also design and trade mark matters.  While Henry continues to work closely with Partners at Wilson Gunn, he has also become the primary point of contact for several different clients.  In addition to this he has also been involved in training and development for trainees at Wilson Gunn such as assisting in exam preparation.

Kathryn is a dual qualified UK and European patent attorney, and joined the patent profession in 2019 after working in industry in various roles as an engineer, software developer, and project manager. Kathryn served as the Hon Sec of CIPA Informals in 2022-23, and now sits on CIPA Council and Education Committee. Kathryn has given tutorials on the FD4 paper through CIPA Informals since passing the paper in 2022, and writes about FD4 on the blog Adventures in Infringement and Validity (https://fd4blog.wordpress.com/).
