Satoe is a Japanese and European patent attorney with more than 20 years of experience supporting innovation across global markets. She works extensively with international clients – particularly Japanese companies – on patent prosecution before the European Patent Office, with a strong focus on chemistry‑related technologies. Her technical background spans industrial chemistry, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food and beverage, and biotechnology.

Satoe is passionate about helping clients, patent attorneys and IP support teams understand the “why” behind Japanese and European practices and the nuances of cross‑border collaboration. With professional training and on‑the‑ground experience in Japan and Europe, Satoe delivers grounded, practice‑oriented guidance that makes Japanese patent procedures understandable for European IP practitioners from beginners to professionals, and European patent procedures equally accessible for Japanese practitioners at all levels.

JoAnna Emery joined atai Life Sciences in 2022. Previously, JoAnna was Senior Intellectual Property Paralegal for Cambridge Mechatronics Limited where she was responsible for aiding in the management and growth of the patent portfolio. Prior to that she was the Head of and Director for Pure Ideas Limited where she managed the strategy, P&L, KPIs and intellectual property operations of the firm. She has over 30 years experience in intellectual property in both the US and England. JoAnna holds an Associate and a Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies from Rivier College.

Emma Norris is a paralegal manager working for Slingsby Partners LLP. With extensive experience overseeing patent prosecution from filing to grant, including post-grant opposition work. She leads a term of client-facing paralegals who manage end to end case handling, coordinating filings and submissions across various patent offices, and ensuing continued high level client service.

In her leadership role, she provides legal and procedural guidance to her team as well as mentoring junior colleagues through their professional development. Alongside this, Emma is part of her firm’s senior leadership team, responsible for reviewing and evolving internal procedures in response to legal and system changes. She plays a key role in delivering tailored training and developing automated reporting solutions to ensure high standards of service and operational efficiency.

Emma is an active contributor to the paralegal community and professional development within the IP field. She became part of CIPA’s IP Paralegal Committee earlier this year and is also part of the team organising the paralegal conference each year. Emma is also part of the working group preparing and delivering the CIPA advanced patent paralegal course.

Christina is a Key Account Manager and Patent Administration (PA) expert. She has worked with the EPO since 2003 in different positions and has been a PA expert for 20 years. Since 2015 she is a Key Account Manager and has participated in various projects around the EPO’s Online tools and services. She has accompanied the roll out of MyEPO to the user community since its launch

Tom Woodhouse is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and Higher Courts Patent Litigator. He read Physics and Computer Science at the University of Oxford, before training and becoming partner at Page White Farrer, where he advised technology companies on IP strategy across a wide range of AI applications. He is a chapter co-author of The Law of Artificial Intelligence (Sweet & Maxwell). In 2025, Tom co-founded Attain IP, a spinout of Page White Farrer, building a whitebox agentic reasoning engine for patent professionals. He has a long-standing interest in how AI systems are designed, governed and held to account — and the professional and legal consequences when they are not.

Sabine has worked in IP for 30+ years and has held a wide variety of roles in-house, in private practice, for a service provider and as a freelancer. She initially worked as a certified IP paralegal but has always been keen to keep developing her role. This led her to taking on internal and external client projects. She subsequently obtained qualifications in project management, process improvement, change management and behavioural economics and has found these additional skills to be very beneficial for IP paralegals and administrators. For many years, she has been passionate about making the role of the IP paralegal more visible, acknowledging its business value and supporting further career development.

Paula has attended the Universidad Complutense in Madrid (Spain) where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in History. In the IP world she has obtained the Patent Administration certification with the CIPA, a Master in Intellectual Property with Universidad de Barcelona (Spain) and the EPAC certification. She has more than 15 years of experience in patent formalities and IP support management roles, working in either in-house department as well as law firms, in Spain and The Netherlands. In her current role she is responsible for the daily operations of the Patent Team in Amsterdam from Plasseraud.

Katie Allen is an inclusion confidence coach, keynote speaker, and workplace culture specialist. She works with organisations to create workplaces where people feel genuinely able to speak up, contribute, and thrive.
