Maddi Brown founded the CFC IP book in 2013 and has over 15 years’ experience specializing in the diverse intellectual property market. As Practice Leader, Maddi is responsible for developing CFC’s suite of IP insurance products and services and educating brokers on the emerging class.  Maddi began her career as a broker and previously held IP insurance underwriting roles at Munich Re and Miller Insurance Services

Sally Bannan is a Senior IP Counsel working in-house with expertise in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, qualifying as a patent attorney in 2007. Prior to working in IP, Sally worked as an R&D scientist. In recent years, Sally has become involved in a number of EDI-related activities, including being a member of the epi Diversity & Inclusion working group (recently approved to be a committee), the IP Inclusive Advisory Board, and the IP Federation DEI Committee.

Alexis Augustin is a principal associate specialized in patent litigation registered at the Paris Bar since 2017, and UPC representative since 2023.

Alexis represents French and international clients in various technical fields: pharmaceuticals (drugs and medical devices), chemicals, renewables, telecoms, automotive industry, etc.

He graduated with two Master degrees, one in Health Products Law in Europe from the University Strasbourg I, and one in Industrial Property and Health Industries from the University Paris VIII. He also graduated from the LL.M. program in International Business Law from the Sorbonne-Assas International law School of Singapore, in partnership with INSEAD.

In 2022, 2023 and 2024, Alexis has been recognized as IP Rising Star by Managing IP magazine, and Legal 500 has acknowledged him as a Key Lawyer in its 2025 edition.

Alexis speaks fluent French and English.

David is a European and UK patent attorney and partner and has worked at Barker Brettell for more than 18 years. Over this time he has built a practice focused on writing and prosecuting patents and designs, as well as a significant amount of dispute resolution.

David’s background is in physics and works largely within the engineering and electronic fields. He has a broad client base but has particular specialism in the automotive and energy sectors where we has drafted patents relating to radar sensing, power electronics, transmission equipment, epicyclic gearboxes for wind turbines and naval propulsion. Outside those fields, he has drafted and prosecuted patents for medical scanning equipment, consumer goods, security equipment and much more.

Michael is a Partner in Gowling WLG’s intellectual property practice, based in Birmingham. He has extensive experience managing patent and design litigation in the English courts (from IPEC to the High Court) and coordinating international patent litigation. In his role as Head of Automotive IP (UK) Michael also has experience of advising clients on transactional issues and the development of IP & innovation strategies more generally, particularly in the automotive and engineering sectors.
