Update to the IPReg Reaccreditation Process

The PEB and CIPA are currently engaged with IPReg on the reaccreditation of the FC and FD examinations for 2026 and beyond. This is in the context of a significant programme of development work on the future structure and content of the FD examinations. This has included a wide ranging consultation process with stakeholders.

The PEB Governance Board, in consultation with the PEB, CIPA and IPReg, has made the decision to pause the proposed changes to the FD examinations at this time. Instead, the PEB will pursue reaccreditation of the existing style and format of both the FC and FD examinations with IPReg for delivery in 2026, until further notice. The decision reflects the wider context of uncertainty surrounding the new EQE examinations and the imminent Education Review, which is being undertaken by IPReg. The view of the PEB Governance Board is that the priority at this time is the expeditious reaccreditation of the examinations, and to ensure as much stability as possible.

Although the implementation of the changes to the FD examinations will be halted for now, the PEB, its Governance Board, and CIPA are committed to the continuous enhancement of the examination regime. The PEB will be returning to this work when there is greater clarity around the future of the education, training and assessment of patent attorneys, following the completion of the IPReg Education Review. In the meantime, the PEB and its Governance Board will continue with the reaccreditation process.
